Willow by Julia Hoban

IMG_2749Seven months ago Willow was in a car accident that killed both of her parents. Now living with her brother, his wife, and their baby. She has found a way of coping with her grief by cutting. When Willow meets Guy he discovers her secret. Will Guy be able to help lead Willow towards a path of recovery?

Willow is a good story. It’s emotional, it’s honest. However, I found Willow to be a rather unlikable character. Throughout reading the entire book I felt there was a disconnect between the reader and the characters.

This book is written in third person, I think if it had instead been in first person the story would be stronger. A first person narrative would have helped add depth to everything Willow was feeling, it would make the story more emotional, and make the characters feel real. It might have even made Willow more likable.

My Rating: 3/5
