Book Reviews

The Juliette Society by Sasha Grey

The Juliette SocietyIMG_2915 follows Catherine as she makes a new friend who introduces her to a new way of thinking about and experiencing sex.

When I first started this book, I really liked it and was curious to say where it would go. That quickly changed about 100 pages in.

This book isn’t really about anything. It’s about sex, but it’s not. There’s no real plot. Nothing really happens. The characters aren’t very likeable, or realistic.

I have no idea why Catherine and Jack are together. They don’t seem to have anything in common or even like each other, despite Catherine’s insistence that she wants to spend the rest of her life with him.

The book rambles a bit. There are about six pages just describing a house and Catherine’s walk towards said house. There are a lot – too many if you ask me – references to movies. Each reference comes with a description of part of the movie, all of these descriptions take you out of the story, they don’t add anything to the book.

My Rating: 1.5/5
