Book Recommendation: The Infernal Devices Series by Cassandra Clare

The Infernal Devices trilogy was my first introduction to Cassandra Clare’s writing. I’m glad I picked up this series before The Mortal Instruments series. I found the characters in The Infernal Devices to be a lot more interesting and way less annoying. Also, the Clare’s writing seemed to be less tedious in this series.

The only bad thing about this series is the ending is a little neat, it didn’t feel genuine. However, the series is still well worth a read.

The Infernal Devices trilogy follows Tessa as she gets swept into the supernatural underworld. With the help of her new demon hunter friends, Will and Jem, Tessa faces a battle against evil forces that want to take over the UK.

Hawaiian Homecoming is the third book in the Hawaiian Heartbreak series. In this book Kayla brings Jay home to New Zealand. Challenges arise when Kayla’s family and best friend voice doubts about her relationship with Jay.

Similar to the previous two books Hawaiian Homecoming is a short and light read. I enjoyed seeing how Kayla’s and Jay’s relationship would pan out. It was an enjoyable read.

I received an ebook version from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Hawaiian Heartbreak by Libby Cole

Kayla is just starting to get over a difficult break-up. She decides to go on a dream vacation to Hawaii. Kayla didn’t expect to have a holiday romance, but the attraction between her and her tour guide, Jay, is undeniable. Will they be able to keep their relationship fun and commitment free, knowing Kayla will be leaving in just a few days?

Hawaiian Heartbreak is a steamy romance, the first in a trilogy. The relationship between Kayla and Jay is amazingly fun and cute. I really enjoyed watching them interact. This book would make a fantastic beach read.

My Rating: 3/5

Book Recommendation: Bloodlines Series by Richelle Mead

img_2490-copyIf you’ve read last Tuesday’s post then you already know I’m in love with Adrian Ivashkov who plays a big part in Bloodlines. Bloodlines is a spinoff of the Vampire Academy series. Reading Vampire Academy isn’t necessary for understanding the Bloodlines books, however Bloodlines does include spoilers to the Vampire Academy series.

I love pretty much everything about the Bloodlines series. The characters are amazing and the plot is fascinating.

Bloodlines is about an alchemist, Sydney, who is sent to a human boarding school with a royal vampire, Jill, in an attempt to keep Jill safe as her life is being threatened. While at this boarding school they are faced with distractions, romances, and threats.

Artifacts, Dragons, and Other Lethal Magic by Meghan Ciana Doidge

Artifacts, Dragons, and Other Lethal Magic is the sixth book in the Dowser series.

Jade is determined not to go looking for the final instrument of assassination. That is, until everything starts to fall apart. Faced with no choice Jade sets out to find the final instrument and hopefully defeat the rogue dragon once and for all.

This book was just as good as the previous five. And similar to the previous five it is difficult to talk about without giving anything away.

The characters continue to be great and well developed. The plot is intriguing, always wondering what will happen next.

My Rating: 3/5

Maps, Artifacts, and Other Arcane Magic by Meghan Ciana Doidge

Maps, Artifacts, and Other Arcane Magic is the fifth book in the Dowser series.

In this book the new rival dragon attacks Jade and her family at the bakery. This brings up a lof anger in Jade and she sets off to find the second instrument with Warner and Kett.

What are my feelings on this book?

It’s good. The action is nice, not a ton of it though. And the romance, oh my! There’s not much more I can say about this book without giving away too much.

Shadows, Maps, and Other Ancient Magic by Meghan Ciana Doidge

Shadows, Maps, and Other Ancient Magic is the fourth book in the Dowser series.

Months after defeating a horde of demons, Jade is hoping for permission to go after Blackwell. Instead she gets tasked to find ancient and deadly artifacts. Accompanied by Kandy and new dragon companion Warner, Jade sets out to find the first of three artifacts not knowing what it is or why it’s hidden so well.

This book is less action packed than the previous ones, however, it feels right for this new plot. The new plot is interesting and feels very natural.

I like Warner, a lot. He and Jade would be so good together, I’m curious to see where their relationship goes.

Treasures, Demons, and Other Black Magic by Meghan Ciana Doidge

Treasures, Demons, and Other Black Magic is the third book in the Dowser series. In this book we begin to learn about Jade’s paternal lineage. With the discovery of who her father is Jade unlocks more of her powers, which comes in handy as she fights off demons.

This is the most action packed of the books so far. The plot keeps you intrigued throughout the book. As with the previous book we continue to get to know Jade better. Along with the new discoveries about her powers Jade is faced with increasingly difficult challenges. I enjoyed seeing how Jade and her companions would meet each challenge and seeing if they could indeed come out victorious.

My Rating: 3/5

Trinkets, Treasures, and Other Bloody Magic

The second book in the Dowser series Trinkets, Treasures, and Other Deadly Magic, follows Jade as she begins to learn more about her powers and her new adept companions.

These books are difficult to describe without giving away anything.

The characters and the ways they interact with each other are complex and intriguing. I look forward to getting to know them better and delving deeper into the Dowser world.

This book is a light read but still has some good action and just enough complexity to give the plot and characters depth.

My Rating: 3/5
